Introducing the FIAT® FreakOut Brand Ambassadors

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the FIAT Club America (FLU) FIAT FreakOut event, where the largest group of FIAT® owners and enthusiasts gathers among hundreds of vintage and new FIAT vehicles to celebrate the brand’s rich heritage and passion. This year, the event will take place July 18–21 on Long Island, New York

We searched our social media communities high and low and found two FIAT super-fans to attend the event as the FIATUSA official social media ambassadors. It’s through their eyes that you will be able to experience this wonderful tradition.

Without further ado, we are honored to introduce to you Ben Biver and Khalil Williams, our official 2013 FIAT FreakOut social media ambassadors.

My name is Khalil, and I am from Chester, Pennsylvania. I am currently an undergraduate student at Widener University and loving every moment of it!

I have known about the FIAT brand since my childhood, but it wasn’t until my freshman year in high school, when I saw the unique look of the 2008 FIAT 500, that my interest really took off. Fast-forward to January 2011, when I saw a group of 500 models at the Philadelphia Motor Show —  that’s when the FIAT 500 stole my heart. From the moment I first saw it, it was love at first sight.

I am excited to join FIAT USA at this year’s FIAT FreakOut because it will be my first time going to a FreakOut convention, in addition to the opportunities to meet fellow enthusiasts and to share my excitement and enthusiasm for Italian cars, all while learning some new things along the way.

Ben

My name is Ben Biver, and I’ve lived in Belleville, Illinois, close to St Louis, Missouri., for most of my life. I work as a personal banker, and in my spare time, I work on my FIAT 500 Abarth, go on long-distance bike rides, and record and mix music for local bands.

Cars have always been a passion of mine since I was child. My dad used to work on his cars in the garage, and I was always there to help and learn. This sparked a long-term fascination with cars and the desire to modify them so that I can have something one-of-a-kind. What I really like about the FIAT brand, and the Abarth especially, is the racing history the company brings to the table and how Karl Abarth’s passion can still be felt in the cars.

I’m most excited to attend this year’s FIAT FreakOut because I will be surrounded by like-minded individuals who enjoy these cars as much as I do. There aren’t a lot of FIAT owners I know personally in this area, so it will be amazingly awesome to be able to be around others who understand the love I have for these cars!

Bodies Make Bodies – Behind the Scenes of the FIAT® 500 Abarth Body Paint Spread

Just like the FIAT® 500 Abarth Cabrio, the annual ESPN the Magazine Body Issue is made from pure muscle. First appearing in 2009, this yearly feature has become a tradition for fans. Not only do readers get an inside look into the minds of some of their favorite athletes, but they also get a glimpse of the battle-toned bodies beneath their uniforms. Think of it as a peek under the hood.

This year, the “Bodies We Want” section is getting the Abarth treatment. With the help of photographer RJ Muna and body artist Craig Tracy, the concept came to life over a five-day photo shoot in San Francisco. “It’s going to be one of those ads that is going to be a double, triple, quadruple take. They’re going to look at it three or four times,” Muna told us during the shoot. In these photos, the natural beauty of the athletic form is used to highlight the sleek and powerful lines of the Abarth Cabrio. Many who see them for the first time may not realize that what they are looking at is actually a collection of human beings forming a well-known silhouette.

Everyone on set agreed, the amount of work that went into bringing this concept into reality was a massive undertaking for all involved. “The process involved in this was many days of preparation, pre-organizing the poses and mapping everything that would eventually become real,” noted Tracy. “Then we worked really long days to make them happen.”

Casey Hurbis, Head of Communications, FIAT Brand North America, was on set for all five days, and was quick to point out the impressive number of talented individuals it took to make this concept a reality. “We worked with local circus performers, artists, contortionists and an amazing collective group of women who wanted to be a part of this special project.” This group of performers also shared the vision of the team, which was to pull off this visual without the aid of post-production software and editing tricks.

Muna was clear: “I don’t think we ever considered it…It was always a point of doing it real. Why would you do it any other way?”

FIAT® Backstage: iHeartRadio Ultimate Pool Party

Already one of the world’s top beach cities, Miami doesn’t need an excuse to get wet and wild, but if it did, then the iHeartRadio Ultimate Pool Party would be the perfect excuse.

We suited up and headed to Miami for this year’s Ultimate Pool Party, and are putting you at the center of it all as FIAT® Backstage dives into the buzzing energy of the weekend’s events.

The excitement began upon arriving at the iconic Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida. The hotel, a mainstay of glimmering jet-setters, served as the ideal location to host the weekend’s festivities, which included a roster of poolside events and a pop-tastic musical lineup loaded with superstars and their megahits.

As Miami is an international playground, the event brought in partygoers from all over the world. We felt right at home.

iHeartRadio’s on-air promotion and sweepstakes lasted for six weeks on 120 Top 40 radio stations across the country and sent over 300 winners (plus guests) to the party of the summer. Anticipation was at an all-time high on Friday as guests began arriving at the hotel.

iHeartRadio’s Ultimate Pool Party grand prize winner, Natalie Bergen, had a weekend to remember starting from the moment her private party plane landed in Miami. To continue in the spirit of stylish transportation, we greeted Natalie and her three friends on Fontainebleau’s private launch pad with her brand new FIAT 500 Cabrio.

During our exclusive welcome party Friday night, those iHeartRadio winners from around the country joined together to get the party started alongside Miami’s hottest DJs, who delivered high-impact sets for the audience.

Despite a gloomy weather forecast, we awoke on Saturday to a gorgeous morning in Miami Beach. The sun was shining and the weatherman was wrong—no rain. To start the day with a splash, our favorite mermaids flipped their fins at the Sexy People Island cabana, taking photos with guests alongside the 2013 FIAT 500 Abarth Cabrio.

The pool was host to a parade of eye candy that fueled the party vibe, as today’s biggest stars took to the stage to entertain the wet crowd.

As the pool party rolled on, a fleet of FIAT watercrafts glided along the entire coast of Miami Beach and laced through the canals, creating a wave of buzz along the white sandy beaches. People busy in their offices and homes were drawn to their windows and balconies to get a glimpse of this extraordinary sight.

The watercrafts first made their debut in the music video for Sexy People – The FIAT song. This distinctive concept was the brainchild of a skilled team of designers who gutted the vehicles and then secured the frames on top of personal watercrafts.

The sun may have gone down at night, but it got hotter when a lineup filled to the brim with some of the biggest names in music, including a special hometown favorite, took to the main stage. The Fontainebleau was aglow as guests captured the night’s most defining moments on their smartphones. Artists delivered set lists that spotlighted their biggest hits, invigorating the electric audience.

Freedom in a FIAT® 500

We join together with our great nation to celebrate the hard work of those patriots who dared to think differently and build something of their own.

While we all know that on this day in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress, the Fourth of July is also an important day here at FIAT®.

In the spirit of independence, self-expression and blazing a new path we re-launched the FIAT 500 on July 4, 2007, exactly 50 years after the introduction of the original Cinquecento. Brought to the US in 2010, fueled by the promise of liberty and personal freedom, the FIAT 500 inspires people to be in the driver’s seat of their lives, live assertively and celebrate the smallest of things with infectious excitement.

This idea of revolution has even influenced our latest television ad, where we playfully imagine what the American Revolution may have looked like if the Italians had come to town in our family of vehicles.

In 1972 I purchased a 1960s FIAT® 850 coupe that was imported from Europe and did not have all the environmental fixtures on it. It was red and the most fun car I’ve ever driven. I loved it. When the 500 became available in Spokane I bought the third one they sold, and I love it. Good mileage and fun to drive!

Our car needed a few days in the shop. We rented a FIAT 500 to get around while our car was in the shop. After the second day we dropped into our local FIAT Studio on the way to a family dinner. We drove out with a new 2012 FIAT Sport.

After I was in an accident, I was waiting on the insurance to pay out so I could buy a new car. In the meantime, I decided to rent a vehicle. When they pulled a FIAT 500 to the front for me, I nearly passed out from emotion. It was the cutest thing!

Well, I fell in love with it and after that, I had to have one of my own. It broke my heart to turn it back in. Nothing felt the same. I test drove a lot of cars and eventually settled on a competitor, but in the back of my mind all I wanted was a FIAT 500. After three months of driving a competitor’s car, I knew I absolutely had to have a FIAT 500. And then I saw the one! A yellow FIAT 500 with black racing stripes. I nearly ran over the median pulling into the Studio lot. It was love at first sight!
